Cat Spay/Neuter Program underway!
The Rest.Q Spay/Neuter program to support the sterilization of local felines (domestic and feral) is now picking up speed…if you have a cat(s) and would like more information about our subsidized program for Mayne and Galiano Islands, contact Joanna at 250 539 3105. We have received funds from the BCSPCA and Provincial Gaming to run the program throughout 2013. Let’s get those cats fixed before any more unwanted litters of kittens are born. If you think you have a feral cat on your property, this program is a great way to ensure that the critter doesn’t reproduce. Rest.Q may assist with trapping (as required). So far response from local islanders has been positive.
Pet Food Recall
Please check your pet’s dry food expiry date if you use any of the products manufactured by Natura (California Natural, Innova, Evo, Healthwise and Karma). There is a recall for all dry foods in those brands with an expiry date before March 24 2014.

Safe Houses full of critters
In April 2013 we have filled our 2 safe houses. 5 cats of various stages of rehab in preparation for adoption. Grey Muddle is probably going to stay with us, but the other four are looking for homes. Bruiser is the big black and white boy – feral rescue who adores human contact; Zoe is the small female black and white who is learning to appreciate comforts of indoor life and affection; and of course you are familiar with Ginger Boy and Hope who have been with us for 6 months and are ready for adoption.
Spring / Easter Greetings
This Easter long weekend Galiano is being blessed with warm sunshine that is bringing out the flowers, new leaf growth and frogs croaking madly. Rest.Q wishes you all a very relaxing Easter break. Remember that those cute fluffy bunnies do not make good gifts – instead opt for the chocolate version. Plan an egg hunt for the kids, have a family picnic outdoors, or simply sit in the sun with a good book with your pet by your side. Have a great Spring!
Fantastic Pub Night – Thanks Galiano!
On Saturday March 2nd the Galiano community came together to support Rest.Q at our annual Pub Night fundraiser at the Hummingbird Pub. Debbie and her staff at the pub served great food from the BBQ, Jack Garton and Elisabeth Jahren entertained with accordion music, and everyone enjoyed the conversation, twoonie toss and of course there was much laughter and fun. Christina Stechishin won the 50/50 draw and Joanna worked hard to keep everything running smoothly. Thank you to everyone who attended. The monies raised will enable Rest.Q to continue to provide animal care 24/7 on the island.
Female cat (deaf) seeking a home
Meet Grey Muddle. This lovely 14 year old female cat was found locked in a small crate, abandoned in an empty house. Despite this terrible experience, Grey Muddle is a very friendly yet sensitive girl. She will appreciate companionship from a quiet family where she is the only cat – she is deaf and can not always sense a person or animal in the room. She readily seeks a lap to snuggle in. Update March 29, 2003: Grey’s health has begun to decline. She is happy in her home at the sanctuary so we will continue to provide her care rather than transition her to another home.
