About the Sanctuary
Rest.Q Animal Sanctuary, while only officially recognized as a registered charity in January of 2007,
has operated as a sanctuary since 2004. Started by its current director Ty Binfet, Rest.Q has grown since
its inception. Its official mandate, as outlined in its society goals, is to provide permanent shelter to
unwanted animals, to provide temporary assistance to animals in need and to those assisting animals in need,
and to educate the local community and visiting tourists about responsible animal stewardship.
Rest.Q Sanctuary is unique in that it cares for and houses a wide variety of animals and birds.
Increasingly, sanctuaries are specializing in one species and Rest.Q is open to assisting a variety of
animals in need. To this end, we are constantly seeking new information and findings that will inform our
caregiving and housing for the animals under our charge. While we have a base population of approximately
120 permanent animal and bird residents, we are constantly taking in animals who require temporary assistance
(e.g., feral cats). Given the bulk of the animals and birds who call Rest.Q home have experienced trauma,
neglect, or abandonment, we pledge to make Rest.Q their last home and strive to provide an enriching and
stimulating permanent home.
The Board of Directors of Rest.Q is comprised of a psychologist, a lawyer, two veterinarians, and a
teacher who bring both a varied skill set and a love for animals to the work done at Rest.Q.
Rest.Q is entirely funded by private donations. To date, two of the board of directors have funded the
bulk of the work at Rest.Q. Increasingly, Rest.Q is seeking outside donations to
support maintenance and operation costs. Potential donors can rest assured that 100% of all donations go
directly to providing direct animal care in the following forms: purchasing animal feed, veterinary costs,
and caging and housing. Rest.Q is able to provide tax receipts for any donation of $20 or more.
